Capt Roy Sproul's message to all the Silver Falcons' supporters
To all our supporters, Welcome to the NEW Silver Falcons Website!
As the new leader of the Silver Falcons for 2011, I’d like to thank you all for your patience whilst we’ve been improving and upgrading our website. It’s certainly fantastic to be back online and we have incorporated a number of exciting changes to the site to bring it up to date, make it more accessible and keep YOU in touch with what we’re up to!
It’s been a somewhat daunting, but exciting few months with numerous changes to the Team and identity and I’m certainly looking forward to the new season and hope you are too! As you’ve probably heard or seen in the media, we have our first female pilot in the team, Heybrech van Niekerk and a fantastic new soloist, Beau Skarda. As for myself, I first joined the Falcons in April 2002 with Team 57 as the Number 3 (Left wing) pilot. I had the privilege of serving in the Team for two years before leaving the service for the Middle East and returned in 2008 when I was offered a second term as the Number 2 (Right wing) before taking leadership in December 2010.
Team 70 was undoubtedly a record breaking team and very privileged to be together as long as they were BUT the new Team is just as groundbreaking and will undoubtedly be just as successful! The 2011 season looks to be exceptionally exciting with shows in areas long last visited by the Falcons and which will be made public shortly.
Seasoned members who will again grace the skies for the Team are Captain Buti Tsebe (No 3) and Captain Gerhard Lourens (No 4) who’ll undoubtedly be a big hit as always and a stable platform for the new members.
As for the new members, from all the previous Team members and I, we wish you the best of luck and look forward to absolute precision flying and a host of wonderful new memories.
To our outside technical support, I must thank Alastair and Shaun of Cinder Systems for all their help over the years and Philip van Niekerk for the hours spent creating and upgrading the new site. Thanks must certainly also go to Michelle Skarda for all the effort she’s put into converting our logo’s to Vectors and helping with the new look of the team.
Without a dedicated and professional ground crew, WE would not be able to showcase the skills of the SAAF and for this dedication and endless work, we are eternally grateful. Without your expertise and behind the scenes work, we would cease to exist!
Finally, to all our families, friends and colleagues, we are very grateful for your patience during the past few months as the early starts and late departures from work could not have been easy and we truly appreciate your support. It is the wish of the team to include our families and colleagues more during the upcoming show season, so you can look forward to a greater presence and greater insight into the team this year.
To my team, I wish you all the best and will endeavour to be the best Leader that I can be. I cherish the position I am in and look forward to your support and many safe flying displays and an unforgettable season!
Safe flying and Falcons regards
Roy Sproul
2011 Falcon Leader
