Major Wendy Badenhorst – (Call sign: “Elektra”)



  • Born in Cape Town

  • Matriculated from Pretoria Girls’ High in 2004

  • Chose to break family tradition and join the SAAF (daughter of two professors and brother is now busy with his PhD)


SAAF Career

  • Joined the SAAF in May 2005

  • Completed Pilot Wings Course in December 2007

  • Qualified as an Oryx co-pilot in September 2008

  • Served as an Oryx co-pilot at 19 Squadron, Air Force Base Hoedspruit for 4 years until the end of 2012

  • Returned to the Military Academy and obtained a degree in Military Technology at the end of 2014

  • Qualified as an flying instructor in February 2016

  • 1600 hours total

  • 700 on PC7 MKII

  • 780 on Oryx

  • Selected as Falcon 4 in April 2016



  • Married to Captain Uri Badenhorst, also a helicopter pilot in the SAAF.
